Play as a maintenance bot on board an intergalactic cargo ship and discover many secrets on your journey to repair the main control unit in this Metroidvania-style adventure!

Objective:

Your objective is to repair the main control unit, which requires three key items: a power supply, a pure substance, and good old-fashioned tools.

On your journey, you'll discover many secrets and upgrades that will help you on your quest. Depending on the outcome of your mission, you can achieve one of two endings. Try and find them both!

You'll find a list of the upgrades and what abilities they grant you below. Consider this your last warning to go in spoiler-free!

Upgrades:

  • Wall Jump: Jump repeatedly off of a wall to gain height and discover new areas
  • Double Jump: Jump one extra time in midair after a normal or wall jump.
  • Micro-Teleport: Dash laterally in the direction you're facing and phase through thin walls in the process. If you manage to phase yourself out of existence, make sure to press R / Select to restart from the nearest entrance!
  • Security Access: Unlock an additional set of areas to discover behind previously locked doors.

Controls:

Reboot has full Xbox controller support, and using one is the recommended way to play. Download the game for the best experience!

  • WASD, arrow keys, D-pad, or left analog stick - Move the bot
  • S, Down, or right analog stick - Look downwards
  • Space, A, or B - Jump
  • Shift, X, Y, or RT - Micro-Teleport
  • Escape or Start - Pause and see item status screen.

Install instructions

  • Windows Installer: Download the .exe file and run it. The installer will guide you though the installation process and the game will run after the installation is complete. The game is also available by searching "Reboot" in the Windows search bar.
  • Windows Standalone: Download the .zip file and locate it in your Downloads folder. Select the file and click "Extract all...". Open the newly extracted folder and  double-click on "Reboot.exe" (It may show up as just "Reboot". If Windows Defender flags the game, select "More options" and then "Run anyways". Please note that the game is completely safe; it is only flagged because I did not pay to have the files signed.
  • macOS Installer: Download the .dmg file and open it. Drag the Reboot icon into your Applications folder and run it from Spotlight by pressing Cmd+Space and typing "Reboot".
  • macOS Standalone: Download the .zip file and double-click the file. The game will be extracted. From there, double-click the game's application to run it.
  • macOS Note: If your Mac refuses to open the game, open System Settings, navigate to "Privacy & Security", and scroll down to the bottom. Allow Reboot to run and try launching the game again.
  • Linux: You probably don't need me to tell you what to do. I'm guessing it's something like "./Reboot.x86_64", and maybe a "chmod +x Reboot.x86_64" if that doesn't work.

yo! i'll leave a more jam-relevant / praise (cause this game rules) comment on the jam page - wanted to share this bug i found real quick though.

when micro-teleporting, you can exist within acid for a bit. i've taken a capture of the bug in-action, it happens during the last few seconds:

Thanks for the bug report! I think this is a side effect of the way I turn off collision with hazards during a micro-teleportation. I found that it was too unforgiving otherwise. Because of the way I disabled it, though, it doesn’t register that you had entered acid until you leave and reenter its hitbox. I was a little worried about bugs when I implemented that feature pretty late in development, but I think the extra lenience was worth it in the end. Thanks a lot for taking the time to record a video of the bug, and you can count on it being fixed if I end up doing a post-jam bug fix release!

in terms of it being worth, yeah i think so too! and the ability to restart makes it so, in case of an excess of lenience, you're able to quickly reset so you even accounted for that! great stuff, excited for the possibility of a post-jam release!!!
